Gearbox shudder on start and gearbox-ish issue at motorway speeds (Gold S SDI)

Hello all,

Ive got an 04 golf SDI (awful I know) and have a temperamental issue with the gearbox upon starting. I'll start the car up and the gear stick will shake violently and make a pretty disconcerting sound. Its pretty random when it does it, but it seems more pronounced after long journeys and makes no difference if my foot is on the clutch! Does anyone have any idea what this might be?

My other issue is that when I'm driving at motorway speed in 5th, I'll ease off the throttle and the whole car will start rocking like its struggling to tick over or its in the wrong gear (when I obviously aren't). This once again is pretty random and its a bloody pain in the ****, especially carrying passengers as they dont know whats going on and just makes things awkward! does anyone have any ideas?

The first thing I would be checking are all the engine and gearbox mounts,look for movement and perished rubber.
