P2279 Leak in Air Intake System - Faulty PCV Crankcase Vent?

Hi all,

Yesterday car went into limp mode, so I stopped and restarted. 100 yards up the road same again. Also noticed a strange sucking noise when engine under load.

I have plugged in VCDS and can see P2279 error, Leak in Air Intake. I have looked and listened around engine as best I can and no real obvious air leak but no one around to rev engine!

I have notice there is a bit of pressure if I open oil filler (like it wants to blow the oil cap off), also some fumes escaping.

My initial thought is PCV valve located on top of engine (2.0 TDI 170 BHP BRD engine). This looks like it should be easy to change, there is one pipe that comes from it which is easy to disconnect, but not sure how to remove the valve itself? Any know how this is done. Is there a way to test valve?

Also any other thoughts on cause?
