    Hi guys,

i have a 2009 Golf VW 1.6 TDI i only bought the car a few days ago, i went in a longish ride about 40 mins, and when i got on to my road i felt the car jerk and i thought i had stalled it, re-started the car, and i saw that the battery symbol and coil symbol were on, the car struggled to start up. anyways got it started luckily was close to home parked up and then i saw two faults appear on the dash, engine fault and esp fault. i turned the car off and now the car struggles a lot to start and when i do have it started it will just give up and turn off, i have to rev it to 2 to keep it from not switching off.

I am planning to go to VW to get codes checked out, hoping that the car will drive to the garage.

I just want to know if anyone has experienced this before and what it could potentially be.. any advise is welcome.

i am absolutely gutted as i only just bought the car it has 75k on the clock.

    regards

Those cars can be costly to repair. Injectors, fuel pump and EGR & DPF are common and expensive failures. Get the scan done first look on this map for a site member near you that will scan your car https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer...8.kMTwqF0PoXwc

Since you only bought it a few days ago I'd take it back and have a word with the seller.

Fault codes will still be stored so they can be retrieved and posted on here

A failure of the EGR valve/cooler assembly won't cause any damage as such but the engine management will most likely default to 'limp home mode'. This means it continues to run but a reduced performance and should enable you to drive to the garage.
Stopping and turning the ignition off and back on usually resets back to normal performance but often as soon as you try to apply any power limp mode cuts back in.
