    Audi A4 1.9Tdi AFN reg Jan 1999 Pre Face-Lift.
I just got into my car and noticed the accelerator pedal cover on the floor. On looking at it I noticed that there appeared to be a broken strip of plastic that might act as a hinge, that attaches to the pedal?
I put the cover back on but it looks like it will just fall back off. I've had a quick look on ebay, they appear to come as a complete unit?
Can anybody tell me if they are fixable. If not any idea of the part number. Is a new pedal easy to fit, do they need coding and rough idea of the cost.
    Hope that explains it. Thanks

This was/is a common problem with all 1990's models. It has happened to me a few times and I repaired it. How you may ask? Well I just used insulating tape to secure it and then used a hair dryer to kind of shrink it on. Ok it's now a rigid pedal but that don't affect anything. A nice simples job.

    All the Best

Just happened to me. As I was exiting the car, my shoe caught the edge of the pedal and flipped off the cover. I assumed that it would go back on as easy as it came off, but that doesn't appear to be the case. There is a thin, but strong, spring attached to the pedal which is resisting any attempt to re-attach the cover, but I will have another look tomorrow in the daylight and hopefully stopped raining. I will probably end up trying Noony's solution. Surprisingly, the cover doesn't show much signs of wear after 24 yrs.

    UPDATE
Had a closer look at the cover and it looks as if it's only gripped by the side flanges. The trapezoid shape should prevent it sliding down. Managed to push it back in place and waiting to see if it stays put.

    FURTHER UPDATE
Seems to be staying put. I'll try to avoid clipping the underside with my shoe in future. At least I now know how to replace it.

    ANOTHER UPDATE
Still falling off from time to time; never when driving, only when exiting the car.
Finally tried Noony's solution, but using silver Gaffer tape and now looks a bit like a race pedal.
Will see how long this lasts, but not using the car much during Covid lockdown.
