    Hi all,

I have an intermittent fault (I've actually had it for about 6 years now but it's becoming more annoying!) Sometimes when I switch off the engine and pull the key out, the car doesn't recognise it's been removed. Symptoms of this are MMI stays on, steering lock doesn't engage (no big clunk) and the remote locking doesn't work.

I've done a search, and this seems to be a problem others have encountered, but there's no explanation fo how to resolve. This thread "remove key and ignition still on" - J519 defective be the source? suggest it's a switch behind the barrel, which would sound correct, and even suggests part number 4B0 905 849.

It's a 2.0 TDi manual SE. Any suggestions on what it's likely to be, and how to fix it (I'm hoping it's simply pull the dash apart, replace switch, put back together) would be appreciated.

    Thanks

No fix, but i also have this problem.

I believe the electro-mechanical part of the lock module wears so it doesn't make the contact.
The mechanical part (lock) is fine
I understand the fix is to change the module -but I'm living with it at the moment as it isn't causing much bother.

If I ever get around to dismantling one I'll post it here

I was reading earlier that it can be the 'weight' of the rest of the keys which weight down the audi key and can become intermittent connection. People have suggested to use just the single Audi key by itself which helped.

The switch often fails on a 4F but is easy to change and not coded to the car or specific key, there are a number of versions depending on vehicle spec, 4F0 910 132 B, C, F, G, K, L, and Q, all at £253.36
