On the A6 2.5 `53 plate when the rear discs and pads are replaced does the handbrake cable have to be slackened off prior to fitting and then readjusted or is it self adjusting? thanks keith

There is a special tool for winding back the caliper as the handbrake works on the rear pads, they self adjust back out when you press the brake a few times.

It depends, sometimes you have to if the cable adjustment has been messed around with due to a faulty caliper that is replaced but generally, no. As Mick says you need a piston windback tool for that part.
