Audio output from all sources intermittent

Chaps,
Wonder if you could help, my 2007 Allroad 3.0Tdi audio is playing up.
No matter what I have selected as the source ( CD changer, DAB, Am, FM, MW etc ) the speakers play for a second or so then go silent for half a second or so, and on we go, it's driving me mad !
I'm guessing whatever it is must be common to all sources, amplieifer etc ?
Any suggestions

Sounds like component protection is kicking in on a module, has anything been changed recently?

Ideally you need to find a Audi specialist or dealer who will scan the car for errors and fix the problem.

No, nothing changed, just started, I'll try and get it to a specialist as suggetsed
