Thinking of changing my C6 to a 4.2tdi sline Q7 in the new year and have a few questions.

What's the realistic fuel economy, it would be remapped for that little extra suprise lol

What year do they switch to mmi 3g? Would get 7 digit postcode upgrade as can't stand nav on my c6

Do they suffer with injector issues?

Are dpf ' s an issue? May gut them anyway

What the the running costs like?

What are the choice options? Few things i know I'd like are
    Rear seat entertainment
    Panoramic
    Advanced parking

I would say a good choice.
I went from a remapped A6 lemans to my remapped 4.2 Q7 (briefly via a bag of crap Pathfinder)
I would say average 20 mpg but i do more town driving or towing a caravan but cruising on the motorway in 8th it will show 40's in the DIS but i put fuel in and use it lol if i was that worried i'd have a Prius
With my research they changed from 2g-3g on the facelift models (LED DRL's) then a couple of years after that they changed the engine tuning and added the 8 speed ZF box over the 6 speed and on the 3.0's addad stop start.
For the late 2012/13 models they also changed to 3g+ ( i dont have but want to upgrade mine)
Most have parking sensors plus camera but like all they can be retrofitted.
Mine is extremely rare in the fact that its first owner doubled the price with options and the only options it doesn't have is electric retracting Towbar and B&O sound.
It couldn't have these because he picked the rear entertainment pack at 4500, panoramic roof and Towbar.
There is plenty of old brochures on the internet to look at to gauge specs that you will want, its just colours that are lacking in the Q7 choice.

On the performance a remapped 4.2 is somewhere about 400+ bhp but 870+ nm of torque so initially its not the fastest off the line but once moving and up the gears (mine had a gearbox remap too but its running torque limited like they do from factory in 1st and 2nd) it defy's how fast a 4x4 should go and the acceleration does not seem to slow down.

    Cheers for that
B&O would be a lovely option but unless i go mental and get the V12 it's unlikely.
Rear entrainment is high in wish list to occupy the growing family
60% of the driving would be town driving and no towing so could i expect mid 20's mpg.
My c6 Dis reckons Ave 30 unless i drive then it drops somewhat.
What they like for comfort on journeys compared to the c6.

That the kind of figures I'd be expecting. Presumably that's the point the turbos run out of puff closely followed by the injectors. This is the point my c6 has reached

They have air suspension so comfort is good depending what height its set on.
You can also lower these with vcds should you choose.
Im running my winter 18's at the mo so the ride is very soft but when the 21's are back on i use comfort round town as it softens bumps and potholes and dynamic when out for a more sporty ride.

Be aware tyre wear is an issue on these and expect 10k out of a set.
There are two rear entertainment options. the cheap one which has two tablet style screens that clip into holes in the seats and will play tv or dvd in the centre at the front or the option i have which is rare because of the price you get a 6 dvd changer in boot wireless headphones and the fact they can watch any source independently and also the same on the front screen (vcds crack)

I was tempted with the v12 but could not find one i liked, but am more than impressed with mine especially all thats been added like the boot closing module etc

Performance wise i would agree but with the 4.2 the 6 sp zf can only take 850 ish nm and the 8 sp can take 1000 nm so if tuning a latter one is better.

I have no idea if the limit of the turbos and injectors are reached or if its just that its not as common an engine as the 3.0 tdi

More A8 4.2's seem to be shown on the internet.

I feel any more than a remap would also need better brakes and look at firming the handling rather than just lowering.

Great advice there. The latter 8 speed would be the safer option then.
Have read about tyre wear. Whats the cost of like for a set of 21/22 rubber as i expect it do 10k a year
