I would advise get a genuine one.

You can get away with a KII lead, but I'd advise paying the little the extra for a HEX-CAN lead as it can be used on later cars.
I bought a KII first, and now I have an A6C6 I had to get HEX-CAN.

there are a couple of guys on here that sell the genuine HEX-CAN lead or go to RossTech direct.

I went direct to RossTech for my KII, and NHN for the HEX-CAN later.
Going via RossTech was great service, but our thieving Government steal money as import tax which wound me up!

You can go down the e-bay clone route for £10-£20, realise the software is rubbish and get a licensed copy of VCDS Lite for $99, but TBH it's not worth it now as you end up buying the real thing anyway later.
If you do this via RossTech, Ross-Tech will give you $99 of the genuine lead when you decide you should have bought one!(Which was my route!)

If you PM me, I have a spare KII lead I may sell - you may still need to pay a registration fee to get full RossTech help we can find that out if you are interested.

I would still advise getting the HEX-CAN if you can afford t. It is a lot of cash (around £250-£300), but it will pay for itself very quickly if you have any problems - plus you can do stuff with it that you would never have paid for somebody else to do!

NHN (Nigel) on here sold them, or RossTech direct - it was really good service for my KII.

I don't know if anybody else was selling them on here - have a trawl and see.

Yes, a few guys have used Gendan and been happy.

It might be worth looking in the VCDS section though and try and buy from a sponsor or site member (of course, Gendan may be a sponsor and I've not noticed!!)

Got mine from Gendan too back in 2010! No problems and quick delivery.
The lead updates itself from ross tech when connected to the net via the software which is downloaded from ross tech. Anyone can download the software but it can only be used with a registered lead. When you receive the lead from Gendan, you register it in your name.
    Jobs a gud'un!!

Hi Nigel, it looks like you are quite near me on the VCDS user location map.
Do you offer your services out to members please?
I have an adaptive light fault on my 2013 A4 Avant and I'd like to find out what the problem is if possible.
If you're able to help that would be marvellous.
