    Hi Guy's
    2 reasons for this post.
1: Do all passat B5.5 SE's come with a heater matrix or was this an optional extra?

I'm trying to post within hte Wanted section of the site and apparently I must have posted a minimum of 25 times before I am allowed, so every little question that pop's up, I shall post

Hi Chris, erm not too sure what you meant by that, I can get hot air coming out of the vents but I believe this is down to the actual engine heat rather than anything else. I was just wondering if it did have a heater matrix, and if so, anyone ever put their hand to fixing one?

EVERY water cooled car with a heater has a heater matrix, it is simply a fancy name for a radiator and the construction is almost identical. As the complete dashboard has to be removed to chnage the matrix on a 3B, you would be nuts to fit a used one when they are around £35 aftermarket.

hehe fair play, I thought it was a electrically heated element like a fan heater or some such, well it's not leaking coolant so I reckon I'll just leave it until it Needs doing
    thanks

Some Passat 3B models DO have an electric auxiliary air heater element called component Z35, to find out if your car does have one, you need to check your PR code sticker for the option code 7E6.

I had to do this job on my vw golf mk3 took me nearly two days to complete mine had split due to having no antifreeze! what a horrible time consuming job!!... one of my friends also had to change his because someone had put rad seal in the system and it blocked the matrix if you look after you car the matrix should never have to be changed..be relived you dont have to..

Think I'ma have to replace the lot when I do it
Does the intercooler run the same coolant or is it a closed system?

No it is separate BUT the fuel cooler system does run the same water on the early 3B3/5 with a water cooled fuel cooler.
