    Hi Guys.

Can anyone give me a few pointers as to where to start looking to solve what I consider a lumpy tick over on my 2003 Golf Mk4 1.9 TDi 130 bhp.
Its done 123000 mls and has a very good service history, lots of receipts etc.
I have just serviced it with oil and filter, new air filter and fuel filter.
    Any ideas.

take it onto a straight piece of road, blast the car but keep it in 2nd gear and the revs just under the red maintained ; wait for a few hundred yards and look in the rear mirror and see all the crap blasted out

The lumpy tickover could be an EGR valve stuck open

However I would be inclined to run car until a fault light comes on

when is the cambelt needing done ?

    Hello
Thanks for the reply and suggestions for a possible cure.
I have done further research and investigations on my car and have come to the conclusion I may have a DMF problem.
If I dip the clutch when it is at its worst when idling it evens out and virtually cures the lumpy running.
Does this sound a logical diagnosis and an expensive fix?
Other threads I have read back this up.
Cam belt is not due yet.

    it could well be

    however

when driving the car, you take off in 1st gear and change into 2nd gear, does the bite off the clutch below pedal feel jumpy ?

sometimes with my audi this happens, I just drive it like a baby for a few days ........................ then its back to normal

I would drive it silky smooth for a few days and see if it makes any difference, might be wrong though; just my humble opinion

I first checked the EGR valve and that appears to be ok as best I can tell!!
to be honest I do drive fairly smoothly most of the time. It's my age.
Had a look this morning again and definitely feel something in the area of the DMF is not quite right so I'm taking it to a local garage that do VW/Audi and see if they can pinpoint the problem.
