    Hi all,

Unfortunately my mmi in my 2010 A6 Avant has stopped working properly.

Its the basic with dvd nav and Bluetooth.

When I put the key in the ignition the mmi screen doesn't come on at all. I start the car and still nothing. The controls/buttons are not illuminated either and unresponsive.

My Bluetooth wasn't working properly yesterday but after I stopped and restarted the car it was fine. (was very crackly on my end)

Just been out in the car and mmi is dead. However, my friend did the reset button sequence and after 10s or so the splash screen appeared and it worked fine. However, I've just been back out about 30 mins later and it's dead again.

Not able to do vcds scan yet as my laptop battery is dead and so on charge.

    HELP!

    Thanks.

Were you using the rear washer by any chance? If so have a look for my thread entitled 'the day the music died' .
I hope it's not the same issue as I had...

Probably find something on the MOST loop has does mate, it drags everything else down with it. If your Bluetooth was actingnuo, this is the prime candidate for failing. It would appear they are prone to water ingress where they are located. You need to get a bypass loop and eliminate componants.

From 2008 Audi changed from MMI 2G to MMI 3G and with that did away with the following hardware modules Control Head, AMI, Navigation, Bluetooth & SDS and combined them into the Audi Multimedia (5F) module, so there is no longer any module under the carpets, they also did away with the basic AMP and integrated that into the radio module.

You need to get VCDS up and running and check for fault codes and also perform an Optical Bus diagnostic as shown here Ross-Tech: VCDS Tour: Optical Bus Diagnostics as you will get error on all of the modules on the MOST bus. If you don't have Bose then the most common module to fail on the 3G setup is the radio module, you may want to unplug the power connector and leave it for a minute or two then power it back up.

Another question, are you getting any sound when the screen is blank as it could just be a faulty screen.

    Thanks for the replies.

No water in the boot so don't think it's that. Laptop should be charged so will try to do a scan.

No sound through the speakers. There is a clicking noise when I put the ignition on, but don't know if this is the car or the system trying to do something.

Check the buttons are not stuck in causing the system to have problems.

Can anyone suggest what I need to do next / have a look at? Has something just come loose, or has a module died on me? Havent done the BUS diagnostic you mentioned yet...

Strangely, when I had finished the scan I pressed the Radio button a few times and it all came to life! But I fully expect it won't be there when I go back to it to go to work at 10.30am

    Thanks.

Run the optical bus Diagnostic (System need to be in a fault state when you run this)

    Questions.

    Do you have bose

Did you power down the radio module like I said in my first post.

Can you post up the gateway installation list.

When mine went south I didn't see any water in the boot.. just a few drips on the elbow in the washer pipe above the MMI unit in the left cubby hole in the boot...no water anywhere else in the boot.

8KO 915 181 C when googled comes up with "Battery Control Unit" and 4FO 907 468 F is "MMI Gateway", both relatively cheap to buy on ebay. CAN Bus is just(!) a type of communiucations network / protocol, like Ethernet, Modbus, Profibus etc. and in the case of Aud uses a fibre optic "cable" to pass data. A "gateway" is just that - a means of connecting to the network from a device - it changes the data into the correct form to be used on the CANbus.
