I was reading my handbook the other day and it said that the handbrake can be released just by pulling off and will release automatically if there is enough power to pull off safely.

I have tried this a few times and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Even on flat surfaces.

Anyone got any ideas as obviously if you have to have your foot on the brake to release it and your on a hill it's a bit of a quick manoeuvre to do all that and catch the accelerator.

    It's a 07 A6 2.0tdi sline avant manual.

When on a hill as long as the seat belt is on the brakes will release when pulling away.

No belt on then going nowhere.

common faullts are the seat belt buckle switch playing up.

    get a scan done.

Firstly you must have your seatbelt on otherwise it won't work.
Mine works well...on a hill you engage the handbrake and when ready to move off into first and accelerate and the brake releases. Can't remember whether the release switch is on the accelerator or the clutch pedal...thinks it the clutch.
You don't need your foot on the brake y release it...that's not how it works. Just pull away as normal.

Ok cool I know you have to have your foot on the brake to release the handbrake normally because it says on the dash. I'll have a play later and see what it does. Cheers guys.

    Hi
The release works on both the clutch and accelerator, on a hill start you need to press the accelerator or the clutch won't release the handbrake. On the flat you can let the clutch out on tickover and it will release, it's all about having enough power there to move the car forward.
Mine's a 2007 2.0TDi so it should be the same as yours.

    Regards
    Tony

Nope. It works the same on my 2.0 TDI automatic. It lets go a fraction of a second after you press the accelerator.

In over 32yrs of driving I've never experienced an instance that would mean I'd have to!

I love the feature, but it doesn't seem to work in reverse.
    Anyone else notice this?
