My car will be 3 years old on 30th October, so will soon be requiring it's first MOT.
The service indicator also shows it will be due its next full service on the 23rd October.

Rather than leaving things to the last minute, I was planning to get things done early.

    I have two choices

    1. Have Audi do both the service & MOT.

    2. Take it to a very well regarded local Audi independent, who I've used many times on my old car, and get the MOT done separately.

Up to now the car has always been serviced by the Audi dealer.

I don't intend changing the car any time soon, probably not in the next 5 years, so is there any benefit in keeping with the main dealer?
    What would you guys do?

I would go to the dealer for this one as it will also be your last service within the warranty period which means anything that could result in an MOT failure that is not wear and tear can be put right more efficiently. Also worth checking if the dealer offers a reduced rate for the MoT if it is done as part of the service, many do.

If you ever have any call to ask Audi to look at the car out of warranty eg. A major engine or gearbox failure, the first thing they ask is where you had it serviced. They are much more likely to give a goodwill payment to a loyal customer who always has it main dealer serviced than to a car looked after by an independent.

Audi also offer reduced servicing costs for cars over 3 years old. Which is a bit outrageous, but they're not stupid and they know they have to compete with independents.

I took my last car (admittedly not an audi) to the dealer for it's 3 year service and MOT. I managed to get them to do all sorts of little jobs that you wouldn't normally bother with; dash rattle, door rattle, slightly corroded centre wheel caps, replaced a slightly buzzing fan unit in the dash. All very minor, but made the car seem like new again. No quibble either, they just did it. They also did a couple of the little jobs after the warranty date had ended without any kind of protest.

It was definitely worth the extra for me. Use the audi service price match to barter your service cost down. They will match the cost of an independent audi specialist definitely, as they should be using audi parts.

    Thanks guys, good advice.
    You've made my mind up.

Can someone just answer me this?

The last service I had was the Oil Service @ £250.
The next service being indicated on the dash is the inspection service, which is being quoted at £175 by my Audi dealer.

For some reason I thought the inspection service was the major one, so should cost more?

The car is set up for the variable servicing regime, but I intend to get them to change it to the fixed regime from now on, as I think it suits my usage better.

This section of the forum is for members with the latest version of the Audi A6. You will probably get more response from your post by posting in the relevant Jetta/Golf section of the Forum Golf - Jetta - Vento - Bora. I am guessing you are not in the UK as during the time of your car (2002) it was sold under the Bora name here and not the Jetta

I thought Audi dealers now did a price match so they will match any quote you get like for like ?
I would rather stick to dealer for that age car, they seem reasonalbt these days on prices

Don't know how it is in UK, but worth of checking the warranty for replaced parts, at least expensive ones. Here we have usually two years warranty in all parts including labour at the "marble desk" i.e. Audi service. The labour is not covered by independent services.
