    Hi,

I had to arrange a hire car for some business milage..

To cut a long story short, i managed to get hold of a Brand new Golf GT Sport 2.0TDI 140.

The car which was delivered to me wasa 57 plate with 40 miles on the clock.

after putting 500 miles on the new car, i thought it i would share my opinion of it.

First impression where good, 18 inch rims, black grill, tinted rear windows, all basic's as stock

As it was a hire car, they had not invested on the dual climate control, not to worry, as it was an hire car..

I am surpised on the drive and performance of the 2.0TDI lump, feels pretty refined compared to the 1.9TDI 130 lump.

Over all, the drive was great, one thing i found was that the seats didnt feel as good as the ones in my A4 Sport, these just felt a little short on the base.

I manged to pull 480 miles from a full tank, mostly motorway driving and a little harder when on the a roads.

I dont know why, but i expected a few more miles from it on a long run, but i guess 480 is not a bad figure.

Anyway.. as i enjoyed it so much.. i have been to my local VW garage today and had a look at getting one!!!

Wow you must have been going some to get the mpg down as low as that. I can get 57mpg on the display without too much effort, but normal day to day A and B roads its closer to 50mpg which is great. I can get it down to 40mpg I have been reliably informed by the local dealer that these figures will increase with the age of the car as the engine loosens up I have not heard of that before

As for your choice the A3 is a V nice looking car but I thought it was too much money for the badge

You will NOT be disappointed in the A3 TDI, it's a corker.

    £19,600 for mine.

Take one for a drive and feel the difference.

Just make sure they don't spoil you with a S-Line Quattro though. Makes you want one of them even more. gits

on the hire car front, i've had a few as my old company car laguna was always being seen to my renault.

I asked for a mk5 golf tdi as i could see one sitting there. they said no cos of the miles i do.

Over three and half years of my old crappy laguna I had:

    Zafira 1.8 16v
    Meriva
    Clio 1.4
    Modus 1.4
    Scenic 1.6 16v
    Kangoo 1.2 16v
    Focus 1.8
    Laguna TDI
    Avensis 2.2 D4D TDI
    Golf Plus 1.9 TDI
    Mondeo L or LX i think 1.8 16v
    Mondeo Ghia 2.0 TDI 130Bhp
    Mondeo Ghia X 2.2 TDI 155Bhp
Mondeo ST 2.2 TDI 155Bhp Estate - was very quick and the interior quality was excellent.

The Mondeo ST I had for six weeks whilst they sorted out my car. It came back with it's steering wheel scratched - so it had to go back again to be fixed. What a shame as i did not like the Mondeo - NOT

The ST certainly showed a TT a thing or two about accelerating 40-1?0

    And when i passed him:

"my good god, it's an estate !!...................AND a diesel"

Current Car: Skoda Octavia vRS Hatch 2.0TDi 170 CR in Candy White
Outgoing Car: 2007 56 Plate Audi A3 Sport Sportback 2.0TDi 170 PD in Black
