Ive started a new post because i think everyone should know about these stupid 2.0 pd 16v engines.

ive finally found the issue but dont know what to do about it.? Head off?

Engine in question 16v pd: they do not have convential hydraulic lifters.

They have 16 rocker arms operating the valves.

they also have a 1 piece cam cap over the whole engine.

My car has what i believe to be complete exhaust lifter failure.

All 8 are springy and 1 is totally shot.

All 8 inlet are fully solid and adjusted up.

Only history of work that i know of is cambelt change prior to my ownership.

Below is a pic and two vids.

    faults were.

    poor starting.

    poor mpg.

    Noisey induction.

    Slightly noisey engine.

low exhaust pressure out tail pipe.

    Poor low rpm power.

    poor high rpm power.

    95mph top speed.

Please take a look as this car was still drivable and could be the cause of many more problems that people seem to be having.

    Pic.

I always thought how messy the design is and I think they could of tidied it up by bridging both inlet valves and both exhaust valves as they are activated together. This could have been caused by lack of oil changes or incorrect oil or lack of oil though.

The only thing i dont understand is i thought tappets sat in buckets that pressured oil into them but these are just floating in the air so they appear to not have oil pressure to operate them!

They just fill with oil and take the play/gap up. they don't use the oil pressure to close the gap/get rid of play.

So if all 8 exhausts are springy and all 8 inlets are adjusted up solid then that must mean my exhausts are broken?

As far as I know hydrolic tapets are supposed to hold there oil and when they get old they leak out a bit, that's why some old engines when started sound tapety and rattly until the oil reaches the top end and the oil gets sucked up by the hydrolic tapets and everything goes quiet.
But it sounds a bit suspect that all have gone bad at the same time. Do you have good oil circulation at the top end, is your oil the correct type. Are the cam lobes ok as if these are worn wouldn't that make the tapets a bit gappy. I will be honest and say I haven't had to strip one of these heads down completely yet, although I have take them off and had a good look at them.

Well its got new oil and there isnt much wear at all but the cambelt was changed in april by previous owner and it wasnt driven after then so im suspecting they were damaged about that time

I wonder if the timing was slightly off and damaged the lifters on all the exhaust ones.
