    Hi all,

Does anybody know if I can install Thule roof bars on Passat CC with panoramic roof? From what I can see you can not as glass roof will not be able to take the pressure while tightening the screws.

Is that correct? Is there no way I will be able to transport my bikes on the roof? I just wanted to buy new fitting elements for CC but I read some comments that it's a no no in a car with the glass roof.

    Any experience here somebody?

    Thanks.

    Hi,
I had the same question a couple of years ago, and the Thule supplier definitely advised against using their bars on a CC with the sunroof. I ended up buying the VW OEM bars which can be used with the sunroof'ed car. Both my last 2 CC's have had sunroofs and I've had no problems with the VW bars.

    Thanks for the reply.

Can you put them up and take them down yourself? Or does it have to be done by VW? I mean can you have them only when you need them or are they permanently on you roof as it's too difficult to remove on your own?

    Thanks,

    Thanks,
You can put them on and take them off yourself as you need them. It's a bit of a faff at first as you have to find the mounting points which are hidden beneath the rubber strip that runs the length of the roof above the doors. Probably takes 10-15 minutes to put them on and half that to take them off.
