There's plenty of information all over the internet about enabling the indirect TPMS but I've not been able to find anything about disabling it - Even trying to work backwards through the given enabling instructions.

Mine is coming up with a 'System Malfunction' error on the dash. When scanned with VCDS I get '03542 - Wheel Diameter Implausible'. I also searched endlessly for this, but haven't come up with anything, so I'm now just trying to disable the system using VCDS until I have time to get it looked at properly.

All I've managed to achieve so far is greying out the option on the MMI display, but the error still pops up on the dash. I'm thinking I need to change the ABS module coding.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The A6 has direct TPMS, not indirect.

A quick search of the forum brings this up - How to Disable TPMS

Mine doesn't, it's definitely indirect. I believe it was changed 2009/2010?

Regardless, I've followed the instructions on that link before, but no joy.

When it did work, did the MMI screen show you individual pressures?

Post a full autoscan of your car inside [c0de] [/c0de] tags, change the 0 for o.

Ok well go online and search the internets for "mmi 3g hidden menu" and you should be able to turn the feature off in there.

    Thanks for the help Chris.

That's another thing I've already tried, but the beeping and dash warning still show.

OK, I tried something else yesterday. If that works I'll report back, as it may help someone else.

No more warnings on the dash, so this may have worked. It was a little convoluted, and perhaps doesn't need to be done exactly like this, but this is what worked for me. All based on the post linked to by Chris above...

To be clear, this is to disable the indirect TPMS (no sensors in the wheels):

    • With the warning 'Tyre Pressure System Malfunction' still showing, remove the TPMS fuse from the passenger side bank of fuses
    • Fire up VCDS - Module 19 CAN Gateway, click 'Installation List' and deselect '4C Tire Pressure II', click 'Do it' and 'Done'
    • Cycle ignition
    • Fire up VCDS again - Module 17 Instruments, click 'Coding', click 'Long Coding Helper', find the 'Tire Pressure Monitoring installed' check box and deselect, click 'Do it' and 'Done'
    • Cycle ignition
    • The warning message shouldn't now show, but the warning light (like a deflated tyre) will
    • Replace the TPMS fuse removed earlier
    • Fire up VCDS again - Module 4C Tire Pressure II, click 'Fault Codes', clear fault codes
    • Cycle ignition
    • Remove fuse, as above (no longer needed)
    • You're done! Hopefully

This cleared it last weekend and nothing has come back since. So fingers crossed, that's it!
