    Hi people,

I got myself a 2005 A6 2.7 at the end of April and love the car, I decided to get the car mapped in June for better fuel economy by Auto-tune in Ballymena which was great but about 2 weeks after the map, I got an error on the screen saying "Parking brake auto release fault". I didn't think this would be related to the map so I took it to a local garage that was able to plug a ross-tech to it. There was no sign of a problem with the parking brake module which I though was the problem, instead there were multiple errors under instruments, ABS/Brake and something else, these all show 01314 - Engine control module 004-Intermittent/sporadic. So the mechanic tells me it could have been caused by the remap, so he cleared the codes and two days later I get the same message when trying to start the car when going to work.

I take the car back to auto-tune, they spent 5 hours working on the computer, removes the map and puts it back on and asks me to let them know if it comes back. I thought the problem was sorted but about a week later the message comes back. So for the third time, I take the car back to auto tune, this time they put a new ECU into the car with the map added again and today I'm back to square one with the same message on the screen which clears after turning the key off and back on and the same errors coming up on the computer.

I've spoken to the guys up at auto-tune, they're saying because it's the same with a new ECU, it's nothing to do with the map so it looks like I have to find the fault on my own.

I can't find anyone else that's even heard of this happening before and hope they haven't my car up!

Would it still be possible that the parking brake module could be at fault because at the minute, I'm out of ideas and it doesn't look like I'm going to get any more help from auto-tune.

    Any help would be appreciated!

What were the exact fault codes?!

Calipers/EPB's failing are common and can happen at any time.

Get it scanned with VCDS, other diagnostic machines may produce false/incorrect errors.

It was scanned 3 times with VCDS up at the garage where I got the car mapped, we saw the exact same fault codes at the same places, this is what they think is bring up the false parking brake error and is why they can't figure out what the problem is?

    Hope this helps!
