So i have just purchased an audi c6 2.0 tdi avant manual 6 speed.

car has just had issues with rocker cover gasket leaking oil

non dealer part fitted and didnt cure the leak so fitted a dealer part and now leak has gone.

it was driving fine as i went to the gym today however the fuel was extremely low showing 0 on display however indicated some fuel on gauge.

on way back home it was fine but when i put my foot down to pull away i heard a bang and the car was running loud and lumpy since. sounds similar to how a car does without an airbox.

driven home extremely slowly after filling it with fuel.

wasnt really runnning well at all with hardly any pull and just a loud sound.

I just hope it isnt the turbo and hope for maybe an exhaust manifold or cat.

    Please help someone.

    thanks

Is it loud in the engine bay or the rear of the car?
I had a similar problem on my 05 A4. It was the erg cooler pipe that split at the connection to the engine.
You need to locate the source of the sound and start there.

Hi and thanks for the speedy reply. The engine is coming from the engine bay. its revs bumpy and them settles until i rev it then it unsettles. the sound is very loud and deep. seems like some black smoke may be coming out when revved hard not like before.

    Thanks

It sounds very like the problem I had before. Did the bang happen on hard acceleration? Like moving off hard from a roundabout etc.
Look around the engine and see if anywhere is very black with soot. You will have to take the engine cover off. Do all this with the engine off.
Then with the engine on see if you can see any exhaust gass being expelled in the engine bay. Be very careful as the exaust gas is very very hot!

Check all pipes and get a fault code scan incase of any faults logged.

basically the rocker gasket was leaking oil which seeped on to the exhaust system which would then throw out smoke from oil heating/burning. now smoke does still come but it may be oil burning off i am not sure. It is around the cat area where there is a mesh type.

yes it happened on hard acceleration just after a mini roundabout - running like crap and ive just ordered a set of 19's. gutted!

    no eml was illuminated.

Is it possible an intercoolerpipe blew off. Check all hoses especially the ones that may have been removed when oil leak
    was being repaired

well it seems feasible. i checked all the hoses i could see and they seem fine. it is difficult to tell but definitely sounds like something came off. turbo whistle is a lot louder now. Can anyone tell me if it could me a turbo or an oil pump as thats my biggest worry. i dont know the engine code but i hear the blb engines are prone to oil pump failure

Worst case it could be the oil pump = big money.

Job now had been sorted. it was in fact the intercooler which.gave up. mrchanic did however advise that thr intercooler was changed in 2013 as the intercooler had a label with date. it was a chinese made part so maybe it was down to that. Why else could a car eat up intercoolers soo fast?
