Has anyone done this on an early model (late 2010) A7? I have VCDS and have already enabled dual phone/sim plus some other goodies, so I'm keen to try it, but I'd be happier if someone has done it before me
    Thanks in advance.

As others have said I think you need an active Audi Connect licence in order to receive the online traffic data so any successful outcome will require the involvement of your Audi dealer and they may push back in helping if the car did not ship with Audi Connect enabled from the factory

I do have Audi connect, I get google maps and I can send locations to the car from a PC, as well as look up petrol prices etc. I'll give it a go later.

OK, I got it enabled without any problem, thanks to the OP by the way. Problem is my license looks to have expired, I assume one of the previous owners used it. It says to contact my dealer, but I think I'll try Audi UK first. Anyone had any luck getting an online traffic license from them?

    Good news

It was a common problem about half a year ago, and there were several owners who confirmed, they received the new licence for free from Audi. They had to call Audi.uk, but I don't remember the exact procedure.

Mine is still not working, while the licence is all right I became a little bit confused about it, can somebody help me, which one is the current traffic online data supporter? I've read, that Tom-Tom was changed to Inrix or vica versa, but even I tried to configure to use Tom-tom, even I tried Inrix in the green menu/aevtest even I tried to set the A/B channels in the green menu/NAV, the online doesn't work at all.

The most strangest thing happened, when I travelled to abroad and the data roaming was not enabled, and in that time, the [ONLINE] message appeared on the screen, however, and of course no traffic data was shown on the display. However the real interesting part came later, when I got home, and I had data connection, the [ONLINE] message was on the screen for about a day, but there was no traffic infromation at all. On the next day, the [ONLINE] disappeared again

I had some conversation with Audi, they checked my settings in their factory system, and it seems, there is something wrong in there, while I can see in the Green menu, that there is a connection, and the MMI receives the traffic information, as I can see the actual date/time in the "last connection" line.

I'm really sad, and disappointed that even the factory support can't enable this option for me..

For anyone who has had their audi connect services expire after 3 years, the procedure to get your license extended is to email your name and vehicle VIN to connect (dot) license (at) audi (dot) de.

Takes a few days but the update is automatic.

I can confirm that this approach works. I sent them an email yesterday and they replied today "Please be informed the bellow mentioned VIN should be now valid until 27.09.2017"

So it looks as though they extend it for a year and you have to re-apply each year.

Just collected my car today from Birmingham Audi. Everything is working perfectly bar the traffic data as it shows the licence expired. I have just followed the above advice so hoping they will activate my licence.
