I am having an strange issue with my Sat Nav.

intermittently it reports to "check the navigation DVD"
When this error is reported I have done the following:
ejected and cleaned DVD then reinserted
I have reset the MMI system by pressing the 3 button reset
tried two other Sat Nav Discs that I have.
    nothing works.

however if I turn off the engine and lock the car and leave it for a short while (10 mins +) then restart the engine, it then picks up the Sat Nav DVD and works fine.

This problem has occurred when using 2009 version and 2013 version DVD's so seems to suggest that the DVD is not the problem.

    any ideas?

Genuine discs as some badly burned copied discs can cause issues? Run a DVD lens cleaner through it and go from there. What year is the car?

The year is 2005. And yes the discs are genuine ones.

Update: I've tried a DVD cleaner and the problem unfortunately persists. It's strange because the Sat Nav will work for a day or two and then go back to saying " Check Navigation DVD" but then switch off the car for a reasonable period of time and try again and it works again! It's a head scratcher. I don't have access to another DVD player to swap it out to see if it's the player that's the problem. It's frustrating can anyone suggest anything else to try?

I think it has to do with the way the 'computer' switches cdown when you stop the car. I have the same problem and hardware is okay as are the disc(s). I have a 2005 A8 4E D3 4.2 q
