    Evening All

    1.9tdi 182K

Im getting the intermittent battery light, on/ off, then on solid then off etc

At the start of the year I replaced the battery, then got the alternator refurbed and changed the clutch pulley.

    Now this again

Changed the belts, checked and cleaned all connections, tensioners are fine..............................

    At idle 14 V
Under load 13.5V ( AC, fogs, rear demist, headlights)
Then for no reason the light will come on and the volts drop away till it gets to about 10V and stays there

Its the same at the battery as the alternator

Wiggling wires has no effect whatsoever so Im thinking Alternator is FUBAR

You can really begin to hate a car

It may be the regulator/ brush pack which is simple to replace.
If the repair was only recent, why not look to have it repaired under warrantly.
Also enter gav10 in search box. Similar problem post, but short in wires blew new regulator!!!
I have come across a problem where the main terminal on altenator appeared to be good, but on closer inspection
the nut was tightening the insulation of cable tighter to the body, but the actual terminal was not making good contact.
You seem to have ruled this out if all connections were cleaned up,but it may help someone. (In this case the voltage was reducing intermittently until cleaned and tightened)

    Cheers for the reply

Yes I had a look at his problems as well. Im working on the principle that as its giving the same readings at the alternator (+ve / outer casing of alt) it cant be a wiring fault?

I will whip it off and take it back to the alternator Doctor and see what he says

    Cheers
