    Hi All,

Just a quick question if anyone knows who the actual manufacturer(s) of Audi parts are? I guess for standard parts it'll be the same across the VW group on the same platform eg filters?

    Thanks,

1990 Golf GTi MkII, 16v, Black, 5-door, Big Body Bumpers, BBS Alloys - sold
1999 Ford Focus Mk1, 2.0i, Ghia + Full Leather, Cruise Control, Sunroof - sold
2010 (Very Nearly) Alfa Romeo 159 1.75TBi, Lusso
2009 Audi A4 saloon, 3.0 TDi Quattro, Dakkar Beige Metallic, Exec SE (Light on spec - but heavy on road performance!!)

Which part in particular is it as all the parts aren't made by the same people.

Thanks Chris for getting back to me - I guess my question can be split:
    1) Filters
    2) Central lock door lock mechanism - Having had one fail already at just 4.5 years\18k miles and seeing the remaining showing signs of similar misbehaviour, I'm dreading forking out £100 each time just for the part

I can't help with your specific question ,but.....

Most OEM's ( Original Equipment manufacturers ) do not necessarily make many ( in some instances ) any of their own parts.

Generally they turn to specialists in the required field, give them the specs and voila

Thats why in my industry, afterr 20+ years of working for an OEM I now supply parts that are considered "pirate" parts or aftermarket copies........In actual fact most of what I actually supply comes from the original suppliers to the OEM made to the original drawings and specs, so could really be considered genuine.....but at a much better price of course.

I know the air filters can be made by Mann, door locks I seen one made by Valeo with a genuine VAG sticker on it but again, could differ car to car.

Any part bought from Audi parts desk has a 2 year guarantee should it fail again within those two years its a FOC replacement.

i think some filters are made by wix. it all comes down to who gives the best price at the right time.

Zoll can be bang on with that statement....

In my past history as I referred to earlier, the large OEM I worked for prouduced asphalt plants at anywhere from £1M - £3M but can be much more now.
Their cash flow was terrible and they could be constantly on stop with suppliers, they would have perhaps 3 or 4 suppliers sometimes for the same part

Supplier A would be preferred but a bigg bill would be run up and account on stop, Supplier B would be used and a similar instance would follow. By the time Supplier C may or may not have been used usually Supplier A was all good once more....lol

I'm not suggesting that Audi do this, but certainly perhaps price / availability of production runs etc etc may favour one supplier over another, but they're likely to have a few options for the same part

i suppose they are not going to stop making cars because the supplier that makes some vital small component is on strike, so will have a back up plan at the ready, even if that is pablo in his shed somewhere in mexico.

This was the case with me when I had my issue with my rear lights full of condensation.......after about the 4th replacement set I was talking to the parts manager I know.

He discussed, the possibility of problems with ( lets say Supplier A ) but that my next set would be from Supplier B

It turns out it didn't make a difference and was clearly a design flaw and not down to supplier manufactuing issues
