When was the fluid and filter last changed?

Make sure your VCDS is running 12.12.2 too.

Was looking at a how to, but noticed my gearbox LDQ looks different. No bottom square plate. Will get a proper look tomorrow as it was raining today. Thanks

Get a specialist to do it.

Don't confuse your gearbox with tiptronic as your car isn't quattro!!

Got the car looked at by 7th gear in Dublin. Gearbox seems ok, they are taking the ecu out and going to go through it. Leaving it back on Monday for them to do an oil change & ecu repair.
The same fault happened again when he went into reverse and drove it a bit hard,
Will let you know the outcome, next week.

Just an update, got the oil changed. He had a look at the ecu and said that it was perfect. He would have to open up the gearbox to see if he could see anything wrong, but said that it was driving perfect except for the hard driving in reverse. He advised to keep driving until something went really wrong, but couldn't understand why he couldn't clear the fault as he never came across this. Might get a second opinion on it in a few weeks time.
Will update when I get more info.

Since the oil has been changed, this fault hasn't returned. Although I never took to driving hard in reverse.
I got onto Ross Tech for some info on clearing the Fault as VCDS wont clear it. Here is the reply just in case anyone gets the fault.

With the P178F code, the factory documentation shows to replace the
Mechatronic Unit. What little I do find on this specific fault code
seems to imply that "extended oil services" can cause this. Having said
that... CVT Mechatronic Units fail often anyway.

Note that when a new Mechatronic Unit is installed, the dealer may have
to match it to the vehicle. You might get a "Locked" type fault code in
the TCM and the car may not move under its own power. 2007 and newer
Audi vehicles might run into this.
