Had this for a while now when braking at 40mph i get serious vibration from pedal and steering wheel but stops before 30mph. Discs and pads have been changed, calipers at front changed had wheel alignment done and told fine, swapped back and front wheels no difference. any suggestions appreciated

a shaking like that is indicative of excessive disc run out. although the discs were replaced, was the run out checked to ensure a hub isn't distorted, a more common problem on certain golf platforms. could also be a bush or ball joint loose.

Used to regularly get vibration on relatively new pads and discs on my old 80 Avant oil burner. Part of the trouble was the car didn't have vented discs so pad transfer was fairly common, heat spots on the discs, etc. Discs were ATE with same pads.

Moved to Brembo kit on the A4 years ago and never had an issue, although discs are vented, etc. If calipers are new we can rule out seized brake slider bolts. I'd check for worn tie-rod or ball joints. Upper arms are fairly common. Also look at CV joints.

Had this problem on a MK4 Golf. Replaced the track rod ends and now it feels brand new again. Cheap easy fix, worth checking for play.

Maybe sounds strange, but check the wheel bearings ! And use some force. I once found a bad wheel bearing on a problem car with similar problems, everything had been replaced but by a miracle the bad bearing had been overlooked.....
