I have been on the board but didnt posted much but browsed heavily. i had engine light turning on and then turned off after few cycles, was more persistent when AC was on, checked with OBD II it showed 0171 code. It has come back on and this time its not going back at all. asked a friend to scan vcds and it has come up with the following. on bit of research, it looks PCV but I am not sure, so any suggestions will be of great help. I have looked around vacuum pipes, didnt find any obvious leak.

Not sure why people don't google the fault code first of all

Thanks guys, I have already done that and posted for suggestion where to start first, though i missed this last line in special notes (If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.) check it indeed its the case with my a6. is 06F129101N the correct for this valve?

18619/P2187/008583 - Bank 1; System too Lean at Idle

    Possible Causes

    • Injectors leak/blocked
    • Air Intake Leak (after MAF)
    • Exhaust Leak

    Possible Solutions

    • Check Mass Air Flow Sensor (G70)
    • Check Injector(s)
    • Check Fuel Pump
    • Check Activated Charcoal Filter (EVAP) System Solenoid Valve 1 (N80)

    Special Notes

    • When found in the NAR 2.0T (BPY) check RVUTB: 01-09-03 or 2018919 for updated Crankcase Breather Valve
      • If the breather valve is faulty, full engine vacuum is typically found when removing the oil cap at idle.

fitted yesterday evening, the old valve was C version, it wasnt completely broken but wasnt working properly and loosing air even at closed position.

    Gasket

the old one has revision C

engine cap removal while idling now have normal vacuum pressure which was crazy with old valve and required good effort to remove it. cleared faults codes, rescanned after test drive, was error free. The mother in law (MIL) hasnt come back yet after 1 day of driving and car is idling nice and smooth now.

Before clearing the codes, i removed the oil cap it didnt take force but after removal engine started shaking think its normal, correct me if I am wrong, I havent checked after clearing the codes though.

after few days of driving, its all fine fingers crossed! good that found the solution spot on, seen people going from plugs, coils, MAF sensors etc first without solving this p0171 bank 1 too lean problem!

A6 got its power and mileage is now much better.
