    Just a random Q.

Would changing a 90BHP ECU for a 110 ECU be possible and would it make a difference to the car's BHP. Im told that there is "little to no difference" between a 90BHP and 110BHP with the exceptions of ECU, Airflow metre, Turbo, EGR, Injectors and possibly manifold.

    Cheers

I wouldn't call it "little to no difference", those are quite drastic differences?

Swapping ECUs will do nothing without proper tuning - save the money and put it towards a proper remap if you want to get close(r) to 110bhp.

wouldnt it essentially be possible then to buy a 90BHP ECU already re-mapped and then swop them??

    cheers

As long as that 90bhp ECU had the same part numbers as your current one and was (re)programmed to the car, yes, it's possible.

Slinging an ECU with potentially no documented history whatsoever into your car isn't the wisest thing you could do though.

Pay someone to remap it on a rolling road, you'll get a full check of the car before anything is done and tailored tuning throughout. You'll also have a warranty and someone to talk to if anything goes wrong.

No probs pal. cheers. think the re-map will put me at roughly 118BHP. Ive set 130BHP as my target though. Any ideas on legal ways preferably to lift it another 10BHP. Im not soo keen on a straight pipe, dont fancy having to put a turbo on her lol Few other ones have suggested an EGR delete? Im guessing with it, it's as simple as disconnecting the egr and putting the solid plate to "egr delete" and connecting it all back together. Apparently EGR delete's can be good long-term for a TDI engine??

    Cheers

The EGR is there for a reason, don't block/blank it off unless you're not a fan of the planet

Check out some of devonutopia's posts from a few years ago, he was always fettling his Fabia for more power.

Unless the car you have is someone special - left to you in a will by a relative, limited edition, 400 miles on the clock, etc - it's often easier to buy something rather than build it.
