Recently i have aquired a set of genuine roof bars for my MK5 Golf.

I bought them off ebay and paid £70. I believe i got a very good deal.

Although mine fit the Golf 5 other vw models will work in the same way.
My question is thus.........Provided as per the picture is the wrench that you use to tighten the bolts. The instructions say, and this is also indicated on the wrench its self, tighten to 6nm torque. How can i tell when this has been reached? the wrench does not 'click' like normal torque wrenches do.

    So how do i tell?

    Hi,
I have won a set of roof bars for my 3dr mk 5 tdi too on ebay. I am expecting them through soon so I will let you know. Incidentally, I am not sure if the set I have won come with the fitting instructions. Are they easy to fit without?

    Thanks

    Baz

    10mm bolt?

Me, I'd just nip them up, then load them up. Nip them up again, if they move, just keep going until you can't move the bars. 6nm isn't a huge amount, so they don't need to be really tight. Not as tight as you tighten your wheels anyway.

We have a set of 4 yr old Golf MK5 roof bars supplied by VW per yours and on ours, there are two arrows on the wrench, either side of that lump half way down the stem....you tighten until the arrows line up.

Personally prefer that method to the 'click' that recently failed to work on my first set of A4 bars and wiped the thread off the adaptor!

Roof bars are very easy to fit except in wet weather when I find it difficult to spot the indentation marks on the frame above the rear doors. Blame my eyesight.....
