First post guys ,we have a tdi sport estate 03 ,2 big dogs and 3 children.whilst out a few months back I loud bang was heard from rear when I checked a spring had lost its top coil.
Since then I have searched the net ,phoned vw spares so on so on and got no where with reliable info .

What I'm after is a set of heavy duty rear springs for the rear and also shocks HD.I don't want sports because of hight issues .the rear has always been soft to be fair my a6 sport 03 is much firmer however a saloon.
Has anyone got a colour code for such a spring or know which parts distributor will list such a item.

Help advice much appreciated people .thank you
Oh these 2 dogs are big too weighing 50kg each so with kids and camping gear on roof I think I really need HD .atvb

What colour code have you got at the moment. VW listings for springs are very hard to comprehend.

The suffix PR-1BB used to indicate heavy duty suspension but Martin is correct, get the paint codes from the springs first.

I still having been able to get the right shockers and springs. Buying top brand like Holstein isn't an option very expensive . Again I've been out today to 2 german car specialists to be told now neither stock or list heavy duty standard height units. One even said your car is a sport from your registration number we list no other than for your specific car .
Only dec Jan both said they had or could get HD standard height but now not .
One did say they had a pair of springs listed as off road springs but neither of us knew what this meant .
    Getting head aches over it.
I'm sure the sport height won't carry our load ,so I guess standard height is better but no one has heavy duty stuff.
And I'm bit worried about buying poor quality from flee bay that just may not be any better. Anyone got any information that may help .
    Thanks

My thought process, take from it what you will and seek proper expert advice before doing anything(!)

You have 1BE 0YC springs. Sport suspension, paint code orange blue blue.

VagCat shows this as part number 4B0511115AB - coil spring / for sports-type running gear / 1 paint mark / 2 paint marks - orange blue / PR-1BE/0YC

I know that 1BB is the heavy duty spring (aka Bad Roads Package) which is said to raise a stock (ie non sport) Passat about an inch. Because yours is a Sport model, you're already lower than stock so one can assume the heavy duty spring will raise your rear end at least an inch.

If you wanted to keep the same weight range as your current springs you'd go for 1BB-0YC

    VagCat shows this as part number 4B0511115B - coil spring / 1 paint mark / 2 paint marks - silver orange / PR-1BB/0YC; PR-1BF/0YC

If you wanted to make the rear end stiffer, you'd have to investigate the table below in a bit more depth to work out which way to take things.

Please do double check everything with a dealership before parting with any money though, don't just take the advice of someone on the internets
