A few of our 4x4 club have been asked by the Emergency services to help out if the floods get any worse.

Staines on Thames is the next target for the bad weather and flooding and evacuation has already started.

Good job I'm prepared !! Think I'll get my dry suit out too....

Funny... My Mom has just been saying it has been in the papers all week...people have been writing... If this was a foreign country there would be millions in aid sent... concerts organised to raise money for the victims... In our own country and our own people...think again!... look after yourself!

At least some people are willing to "muck in" and help...

I heard an Irish government spokesman, a Mr Juan Kerr, on the radio the other day explaining why the emergency relief payments for flooded families hasn't been paid out yet. Apparently it's a "fluid situation" or in other words, he's a creep that likes buzzwords and won't do anything.

I'm on standby to help evacuate anywhere around Staines/Wraysbury etc by coach; Given where the fuseboards are on our coaches, they won't be able to go into the really deep stuff, so maybe others with 4x4's and boats will be bringing people to the shallower or unflooded areas for us to move in larger numbers?

The Red Cross did respond to the calls for "Why hasn't there been an appeal to help the British flood victims?" here

It seems that they don't actually need that much more money than they have in their budget for UK aid, which makes sense, as supporting people in southern England won't be anywhere near as expensive as shipping food, water, shelter and equipment half way around the world to places like Bangladesh when they have a natural disaster.

Also, and I don't want to make light of what is a personal tragedy for the people affected, but it's hardly on the same scale as something like a tsunami, earthquake or cyclone.
