    may be of help
    Secondary oil separator
Secondary oil separation is provided by a cyclone
oil separator with a pressure regulating valve.
Cyclone oil separators are also known as centrifugal
oil separators. Their functional principle is based on
the induction of rotational movement in an oil-gas
    mixture by channelling the flow.
The centrifugal force accelerates outwards the oil
droplets, which are heavier than the gas. The oil
droplets deposit on the wall of the cyclone oil
separator and drip through a drain hole into the
cylinder head. The cyclone oil separator has the
capability to separate very fine oil droplets.
A damping chamber adjoining the cyclone oil
separator prevents unwanted turbulence when the
gas flows into the intake manifold. The damping
chamber reduces the kinetic energy of the gas.
A residual amount of oil also precipitates out inside
    the damping chamber.

So oil consumption requires checking to see if excessive so as to rule out consumption or to prove it, having mentioned the blow pass builds up so if the engine breathers are in order and the turbo is not allowing oil to pass then the build up from the breather allowing oil into the inlet combined with turbo pressure means oil is circulating and leaking from the weakest points

New EGR valves don't leak oil, in fact I would say most don't. We always note it down on the service inspection sheet and of the twelve TDI's we serviced last week, not one had this noted down by the mechanic. If they look this this then we do suggest replacement.

Some cars I get come in with tiny holes drilled in the lowest point of the intercooler, one I saw recently had a tiny metal pipe glued to the surrounding area to bleed off the oil. I wonder how much boost that would loose? Probably not very much.

    Anyway, its no big deal.

Sorry to bring up an old tread but,How is egr related to the actual problem OIL LEAK why bother with egr if it has no idea where the oil came from and decides to spit it out and is actually a good thing because it doesn't end up on inlet valves and cake the whole thing even quicker.. try to clean them off hah people use valve cleaning miracle in random bottles and brands but actually there is no way it can get on top of the valves lol. Oil is coming from crankcase breather hose as natural process in time it can get a bit worse. It can be confusing and seem like the oil is coming from the turbo itself but that is not necessary the case. What upsets me is that the egr is not effective and could have small tubes coming down and end up in a small like collector pot so we can just pour out the oil like a maintenance thing. Take a pipe of the crankcase breather and try to block it with your finger after few seconds let it go and you will notice it has build quite a pressure and is eager to escape if this is not the case then it might be blocked maybe because of very rare oil changes and it just blocks the pipe with jelly oil.. But i can't see this happening this would be an extreme case.. I hope the web search finds this useful one day.

I had the same problem, take the inlet manifold off and clean, replace the EGR valve, easy peasy
