Hi does anyone know if Sky can do anything about poor download speeds? I live in Warfield, Bracknell so I am hardly in the sticks! What is more annoying is that BT has fiber on the estate and there is a manhole cover with the tell-tale 'CATV' marking on it, which is within 10 meters of the house.

Do you know if they charge for the install? I am renting the property and will be moving out it around 7 months so it would need to cost justify in that time frrame.

If you're moving out in 7 months, changing provider isn't an option as they're all a 12mo minimum term - unless you looked at something like plusnet

You can run a speed test for your broadband and then contact sky and advise them of poor speeds, they will then check the line and advise. I've had this in the past with our broadband at the unit and we were sent out a new router which did increase the speed.

^ depends on factors such as the distance from exchange and whether they're unbundled or not. His connection may also be capped depending on the package, but I was working on the assumption that common sense checks have already been carried out

Thanks for input. Yep speed checks done. I will let them know the latest results and see what they've got to say. Router is a Sagem and about 5+ years old I reckon.

Definitely worth checking what they say, our router was an old one from home about 7-8 years old.

i live properly out in the sticks. we were the first place in the country to get digital telly, so if it didn't work it wasn't a problem. we are with bt internet at its just fine. ok it could be a bit quicker, but its good enough. everyone else says they can do better until i give them my postcode, then they just make an excuse and put the phone down.

I have to confess I can't even think where Pembrokeshire is! I'm getting downloads at about 1.5mb at my old house it was more like 8m. If you've never had it you don't miss it is part of it I guess!
