I had to attend a client meeting today so went with one of my colleagues who drives an 11 plate Ford Focus. He was able to play spotify on his phone and play it through the cars sound system via bluetooth. Thinking this wouldn't be a problem on my car with MMI 3g, after many attempts i wasn't able to do the same thing. It seemed very easy to do on a so called lesser car but unless i'm doing something wrong then additional cables may need to be purchased.

Does anybody know how to set this up and what parts would require to be bought?

The cheap way I did this recently (Without Bluetooth):

-Install the spotify app on your phone
-(Optional) get a Cigarette lighter adaptor to charge the phone whilst you use it
-Connect the phone from the 3.5mm Jack on the phone to the Aux-in on the MMI. These cables are literally pence to buy.
-Go to the spotify app, select your playlist (or create one if you havent), start the music playing
-Tuck phone away, adjust the volume using the radio as normal

The only things to watch out for:
-You can't legally mess with your phone whilst driving, so does it really make much of a difference when comparing bluetooth to 3.5mm jack?
-You can't change tracks/songs whilst driving, so make sure you get your playlist right
-You will be streaming via your phone 3G. Check your data allowance, this can run up big bills if you do it a lot and don't have a decent data allowance (I am on three - have unlimited data)
-Going into a tunnel you can lose phone signal and the music stops playing

I use paid spotify which let's you store offline. No data use to worry about. The kinvaro kit from Amazon has a skip and prev button allowing you to not have to touch the phone, once you load your playlist, also I found playlists.net has a lot of premade playlists to make your life easier. It also has a USB from the lighter to allow charging. As I only have concert I'm really impresses, also added phone functionality for calls with a button for answering and a mic. 30 kit, bargain
