    Hi,

I have an '07 with the plain vanilla halogen bulbs. I would like to swap the headlights to HID ones if possible. I do not need the DRL headlights if that makes any difference. My bumper has the jets by the way.

I have seen posts mentioning self-leveling, jets, etc and it got a bit confusing at the end!

Is there a specific OEM headlight that could work without much modification?

    Thanks in advance

OEM setup you'll need washer jets for the lights and self-beam levellers for the suspension to be legal.

This can be expensive as you need a new front bumper, fit some OSRAM Nightbreakers or Philips Xtreme Vision and they'll be legal and a helluva lot cheaper than a OEM retrofit.

    Thanks for the reply!
I already have the washer jets. I suppose I could skip the leveller part?

    You wouldn't be legal.

Depending on whats fitted on your car you may need a new central electric module too plus you do know how much one headlamp without ballasts/bulbs/misc is?!

I was planning on using ebay for the headlights to be honest...
How can I find out what's already fitted on the car? I have the original VAG-COM so I suppose that would tell me what modules are fitted if I do a complete scan?

Yeah they're still dear on eBay for the bare headlamp alone and you can't use LHD ones either.

See if your central electric module allows coding for xenon.

Osrams will give near enough the same output as Xenon without the cost.

to pass mot you will need washers (which you have) and self levelling (which you don't) so you won't be able to mot your car, but will be able to see at night. a catch 22 really.

or try another not strictly legal route and fit 65 watt off road bulbs which are brighter but dont dazzle the same as hid lights in halogen reflector lenses

I am still looking into it...I will connect my VAG interface and check for a start what Chris suggested.
Which module would I have to check in order to see if I have the ability to activate the Xenons?
If I am good to go, I could then look into getting headlights and adaptor.
Having said that, do I need to purchase a specific version of headlights? I have seen people discussing about AFS and not AFS here. Would it make a difference in my case that I am going from Halogen to Xenon?
I am sure that I do not have the EFS on the halogens, but I would be glad to find out if somebody would tell me what to look for through my VAG.
Thanks in advance. It's great having that online pool of knowledge!

    Cent Elec from memory.

Afs requires a helluva lot more which you will need to buy, stick with normal xenon.
