A3 G85 implausible 00778 steering angle sensor

Above error code has no basic setting has come up tried the usual fully left hold for 5 fully right hold for 5 then centre and drive. Cleared codes but lights and code still appear. Checked sensor and connection made sure it had equal turn each way so it's centre before putting it back in (is there a centre position on these?) reset and retested still the same. Replaced G85 sensor cost me a £100! Installed it did the same steering procedure I and cleared codes still getting the same messages, in vcds I'm getting 0 on angle also. Any ideas?

tried the usual fully left hold for 5 fully right hold for 5 then centre and drive.

The 'usual' is to follow the procedures listed on the Ross Tech wiki - see here for Conti/Teves MK70 ABS/ASR or here for Conti/Teves MK60 ABS/ASR/ESP where there is no mention of 5 or holding anything.

Just to update this, I had to reprogram the module with Ross tech and get the steering aligned bang on and problem was fixed
