    Hi,

I've tagged onto this old thread (rather than starting a new one) as it contains relevant information.

On short journey's I find that that my blower motor wouldn't work. On very long journeys I'd find it suddenly starts working randomly for short periods. I can also hearing it starting to spool up then failing.

A local garage have replaced the blower resistor 4F0820521 / 4F0820521A (I'm unsure which). That didn't work.

They attached voltage straight to the fan motor and it spools up and runs absolutely fine. This leads them to believe it's the actual climate control unit at fault: 4F0910043J

    XAGA020.jpg

Whilst these are only £40 to buy second hand, apparently they can ONLY be re-coded by the dealership for some reason (not possible at an Indie supposedly). Can anybody confirm if this is the case?
I'm having a lot of trouble finding a dealership who's willing to re-code a second-hand part (unsurprisingly) The new part is £1,110 + re-coding + VAT!! Considering I've just replaced all 6 injectors - it's more than I can afford to spend.

Because it was only £14, I've also ordered another part for the garage to try that may help & hopefully won't need to be re-coded - Audi A6 C6 Control Unit for Convenience System ECU: 4F0907289G

Can anybody who's had similar troubles offer me any advice or their experience please?
    Cheers
    Al.

There are independents that can remove the Componet Protection for around £80.

Ask your garage to check that the motor leads are connecting correctly to the resistor module.

Are getting the V2 blower open/close circuit fault code?

Be careful when swapping the modules as you can force the modules to go into CP mode.

Thanks very much for your input Dan, I will ask the garage to confirm re: the motor / resistor cables and the V2 blower error state.

The control module (with the 2 dials / 2 LED matrix displays) has already been disconnected & reconnected. What would it display on its LED display if it had gone into Content Protection mode please?

Does anybody know of a specialist in the north (Manchester or Leeds etc) that could assist with this please (or is it against forum rules to list independents that can do CP removal?)

I realise there's a whole ethical debate about how CP is there to deter our cars being stolen and sold for parts!
Whilst in my case, it's a 13 year old car with hundreds of similar models lining the scrap yards around the country; I suppose listing companies that can remove CP would apply to new models too!

When in the CP mode the unit will function with limited functionality the demist may work correctly as this would be classed as safety issue but the other functions may not work or only work for a few seconds at a time.

Thanks for this info. At the very least, this means we can check the fan runs properly for a few days (using the demister) before going to the expense of having the CP removed!

Having gone to the expense of getting a replacement aircon control, taking it to an specialist independent who was unable to sort the component protection (surprise surprise!) the garage have been advised that’s it’s probably just loose cabling or connectors...

Of course they have already ensured all connectors are pushed together properly etc

An auto electrician is coming to inspect the wiring loom for the blower etc...

In the mean time, the blower continues to go on and off as it pleases during journeys! Not good on these freezing cold nights!

Do You still have the old blower motor on the car as the fault will be the brushes being worn.

The springs are bouncing hence the sporodic operation as they are now nearing the relaxed state.

Don’t bother with the electrician just replace the blower motor.

ECP £89.10 with discount code ‘save55’ until midnight.

I the motor wasn’t changed because it ran fine when they applied power directly to it...

But obviously that could be because they’d jiggled it getting it out of its housing!

Thanks - it’s worth replacing the blower; I’ll give it a go...
