Long time lurker first time poster, so I thought I would post my solution as googled the *rap out of it before I managed to clear the issue.

    symptoms

from cold, hit 2000 ish rpm, glow plug light flash, limp mode, stop switch off start carry on, all fine, although boost seemed low.

if I carried on driving without switching off, it CEL.

Cleaned maf, check for vacuum leaks, all ok, found that the turbo actuator moved freely, but there was a slight notchiness if i pushed the arm backed to starting position manually. So I guess the vanes were coked up. Took the plunge, unbolted exhaust side of turbo, created a blanking plate from cardboard using gasket as a template, used half a can of mr muscle oven cleaner, in the exhaust side, left for 10 mins, worked actuator, and it freed up completely. Left another 10 mins, I shop vacuumed what I could back out, old wickes wet dry vac that's on its last legs, bolted up, started up, all sorted. That was a week ago. No problems. Car goes like a rocket, I can't believe how well it's running. Oh changed oil directly after, using one of those Pela jobs. Checked codes, I use the torque pro app and a bluetooth dongle, all clear.

Hi, That's a result... I have the same problem with mine. Has the fault stayed away? I'm very tempted to remove my turbo and give it a proper clean out if it works.

    Cheers

this is good to know, i stated to get the symptoms and got the carbon clean - it did improve the performance but if its still there... i also just changed the boost controller, wish i had of found this first to check the movement.
ill maybe suffer it until she is due an oil change which isint long, get my mini back on the road and take her off the road for a day or 2
