Hi I have a 2006 55 vw golf plus 1.9 tdi 5 sp and noticed gearbox oil under the car today not a lot just a small pool. Got in car to drive to local garage and about 1 mile down the road there was a noise of dry metal so I pulled straight over. When I got out there was quite a lot of gearbox oil on the floor. I started the engine back up and there was no noise and I could select gears fine but when I tried to move forward or back after a few meters there was resistance as if the handbrake was being pulled up. Also with engine off and out of gear it cannot be pushed as it feels like it is still in gear. Any ideas? Thanks

I'd be inclined to suggest that you have it recovered to the garage and let them diagnose it.

Hi. Yea the rac are recovering it in the morning for me, but just wondered if anyone else had a suggestion on what it could be or had suffered similar issues before. I've had gearboxes go on many cars before but never like this so was wondering if there could be something else wrong other than the box itself thanks
