Got a 2009 touran which I recently sourced. Everything is pretty good with it but its got a couple of faults I would like to resolve.

one issue that's particularly annoying at this time of year is that the windscreen washer jets are really weak, basically only coming up a few inches.

anyone advise where to start with getting to the bottom of this.

Have you tried a pin in the nozzle and adjusting them to spray higher?

I haven't actually, but it kind of looks like the jets themselves are weak anyway, rather than just the direction.

I might try playing the nozzle directions anyway, see what happens.

At a guess I'd say the motor was on its way out. You don't out washing up liquid in the washer fluid bottle do you?

Well I've just bought the car in the last few months so I can't really say whats been happening in even the recent past but definitely no fairy liquid in there now.

are you thinking that fairy diluted is too thick for the pump or something?

i was thinking that if it was a blockage somewhere it'd have to be somewhere common to all 4 jets as its effecting all jets. As you say could equally be the pump.

Fairy liquid (or any washing up liquid) leaves a sticky residue on the pump, pipes and jets. It will, over time, build up and something will fail.

If you get a handful of soap suds and rub them into your hands it will leave a sticky coating on them, it's the same as happening in your jet washers if you use washing up liquid. Hopefully the previous owner didn't but its possible.
