    Hi all,
I need a front subframe for my 1998 Audi A4 2.4V6 B5 8D2 Saloon, manual, petrol. My dealer quoted £515 so I started looking for a used item. Can anyone tell me if I need to search for a subframe previously fitted to the exact same model? It seems as though there are different parts for manual and automatic cars but are engine size and fuel type also determining factors?

    Tom

Yes there is so much choice from breakers yards just get the same one (but for example the passat might have the same one in V6 manual form). You have a part/assy number?

Any v6 subframe will work on your car including v6 tdi's and even 1.9tdi sports with 6 speed gearbox... The difference is the gearbox mounting on subframe, v6 (even if 5 speed) uses similar brackets to mount the gearbox, any other 5 speed gearbox have different gearbox mounts.

Thanks guys, that helps a lot. I've just had a reply from one 'Audi specialist' breaker who has offered me a subframe apparently in good condition and checked against my chassis number for £66 delivered so that will be a great result if he passes the forthcoming interrogation

If you dont get anywhere, I have a mate who is breaking two V6 A4's and has the subframes available. He is away on Chrimbo Holls until either friday or monday.

I can always ask when I speak to him next which will probably be this weekend.

    He is in Winchelsea Sussex...

Thanks for the helpful info but the breaker I was negotiating with sent me a subframe in surprisingly good condition. It was a relatively easy job to fit, in between storms!
