Equired at main dealer about which revisions of CCM need to be replaced if the Steering Column Lock fault shows itself as mine being an '06MY am unsure whether to carry this risk any further.
Got told that early CCMs do need changing too but later ones don't. Does anyone know which are "early" and which are "later"? Brings fixing fault cost to nearly a grand at dealer as against £300-ish for board swap and re-code immo alone.

I don't understand your question. The ccm was never the problem. The problem was coding the nwe lock. The new 'new' lock can now be coded to the original ccm so ccm doesn't need changing.

Thanks for that Martin, and I figured you would've made mention on your website entry if this was so. Mine hasn't gone faulty, but dunno whether I want to carry the risk of a near £1k bill on a car only worth £6k at most. But if you see this thread:
UKpassats.co.uk • View topic - Steering Lock and Convenience Module
you'll see that there's two posters there that have had this experience of being told by main dealer at the point of doing the works of the extra £600 or so of expense due to CCM.

Both US and RoW TPi covering this doesn't mention what CCM revisions are affected.

(later) And another in this thread:
VWVortex.com - Old issue in US. I'm after advice on electronic steering lock/ccm replacement in UK

Many dealers don't know what they are talking about because they confuse old situation (change ccm and steering lock) with new situation (change lock and reprogram). On rare occasions the steering controller needs changing with the lock because it has gone faulty at the same time. ccm should not need changing. Steering lock costs £75. You can disconnect old one and leave it hanging. Drive to dealers. Swap to new one and pay for the coding. OR let them do whole job for about £350. Removing lock is a pain. It's easy to do but fiddly to get the column out.
