2 issues, the error “open or short to ground” is still that plug, the g291 sensor is in the valve block, it’s not faulty but the connection to it is,

    the rear sinking, very common on the C6, try this;

park in allroad (lift) setting overnight to see if the car drops from this setting, then next night park in dynamic setting, if it always sinks parked in dynamic, but doesn’t sink in the higher settings it’s the airbag leaking.

    report back

    best regards

Ok thanks Andy, I'll have to have another go at the connector another day. As I've manged to break the plastic clips I may have to solder a new one on. *♂️

OK will try the experiment on the dropping tonight and report back.
    Many thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Andy,

Right, I cleared the fault codes which brought the menu back up, and I selected 'comfort'. It inflated itself up to there without any issues.
Then I went to put the car into 'allroad' and it got pretty high and then it failed and let itself down to comfort sort of height again, greying out the menu. So I left it overnight and the back had gone back down to the bump stops again.

This morning clearing the errors and selecting comfort riases itself up OK, and the car drove fine. The error message that endures after the clearing is still the same one, but perhaps this is the dodgy connector rather than anything to do with the leak. I have ordered a new connector body by the way so I'll fit that in due course to make sure it clips nicely in again.

Ok, so in dynamic it sinks, park it at its highest setting, to do this, clear the error, take it for a 10 min drive, this will top up the storage tank then ask it to lift up once up at the highest it will go enable jack mode on, then leave it to see if it sinks

The fault code and sinking are not linked, the fault code is that connector or wires to it.

The sinking is likely the airbag, try it at as high as it will go left overnight and report back

    best regards

    Hi Andy,

OK so I've tried a couple of times to get it to go to its highest setting after a decent drive and it wont quite get there - in comfort setting whilst driving along it d=goes up 1 setting, but then when you slow down and it tries to go up the next level it times out and sinks back down to level 2.

When I put it in jack mode last night it had sunk down again on both sides at the back, but of course thats basicaly at dynamic level again. However if if keep an eye on it on the way down it looks like the rear drivers side sinks first and looks lower than the others.

The new connector shell has arrived so when I do that I'll make sure I have re-connected the brown compressor pipe into the block nice and tight. Otherwise should I do the soapy water test on the rear drivers side bag?

    Many thanks,

    Chris

    Hi Andy,

After a few attempts I managed to park it at the higher setting and left it in jacking mode and it didn't drop. Is this useful?

    Many thanks,

    Chris

Yes, it’s definitely an airbag leak, if it doesn’t sink on high setting but always sinks on lowest setting it’s the airbag,

now park in dynamic setting, enable jack mode and what ever corner sinks the lowest has the leak, replacement airbag around £50-60 online,

the car struggling to lift suggests the compressor not strong enough, what condition was the cylinder when you fitted the piston ring? Any scoring or deep marks

    best regards

    Thanks Andy, will do.

The compressor felt OK, both the old piston ring and the bore felt smooth. I'll double check that when I re-fitted the brown pipe into the block that it isn't letting by.

I'll see which airbag drops and I'll order one. I think it's the drivers side rear as that always seems to drop first.

    Thanks again.

Sorry to yet again bump this old thread.

I have en A6 Allroad -07 that has en intermittent fault.
I have changed the compressor, the fuse and the relay.
The yellow light start flashing almost every time I drive it. And the MMI gets all grey. I clear the codes and sometimes I can drive for 2-3h before it comes back. It always goes down to Comfort and stays there.
I only have a cheap reader and it shows - 02645 - Solenoids for lever control system.
I know I broke some of the pins to some connectors when I changed the compressor. But I used what we in Sweden call "Cat stranglers" and you guys call zipties to tighten the connectors. Could that be the problem ?

    Best regards !
