Previously when I scanned my Touareg I got a different readout from VCDS. Now that I have an Audi A6 I see a different layout. What do some of the codes mean. ie Fault priority, fault freq, reset counter. see result below. 00456 - Control Module for Access and Start Control (J518)

    004 - No Signal/Communication

    Freeze Frame:

    Fault Status: 01100100

    Fault Priority: 4

    Fault Frequency: 1

    Reset counter: 245

    Mileage: 213976 km

    Time Indication: 0

Remember to always CLEAR all codes, do a few ignition cycles and rescan.

Doing a search that fault you can ignore and should clear after so many days.

    Fault priority meanings -

    Number Meaning
1 The fault has a strong influence on drivability, immediate stop is required.
2 The fault requires an immediate service appointment.
3 The fault doesn't require an immediate service appointment, but it should be corrected with the next service appointment.
4 The fault recommends an action to be taken, otherwise drivability might be affected.
5 The fault has no influence on drivability.
6 The fault has a long term influence on drivability.
7 The fault has an influence on the comfort functions, but doesn't influence the cars drivability.

    Fault status - not relevant

Priority is relevant and explained above

Frequency - states how many times its happened, in your case, once.

Time indication - gives a time the fault occured, sometimes not as in your case.

Thanks that's sorted it for me. Now to get through repairing the faults. Nothing major though. Think most have been covered on the forum. Thanks once again.

Reset counter: 245 Means, as I understand, that the cars computer has to have 245 error free tests on that module before it will clear on it's own (ie without VCDS)
