    Hi All,

Just bought a 2004 Polo 1.9 TDI Sport, with 17K on the clock. I've always had Citroens before so new to VW.

Very pleased with the car, but have a niggle about the brakes,

There is a grinding noise from the front brakes when applied, but apart from that, OK.

Nothing found wrong by mech who kindly put it up on the ramps at no cost. (Thanks to Ray at Autwork in Salisbury, Independent VW/Audi specialists) except for a bit of de rusting of the disks, which I duly carried out.

The noise is still there, has anyone has the same problem??

    Thanks for any advice
    Richard

My wife drives a SEAT Ibiza 1.4 16v and has the exact same moans. She bought it with 12k on the clock and now has 32k. The brakes work fine (if a little limp).

Dealership says its normal, mechanic chum says its strange, but can find no faults.

When it comes to new pads I'll be fitting something other than OEM so until then, it's scratchy noises galore.

Considering selling my VCDS KEY-USB interface. If you're interested please contact me via PM or email.

    Thanks for the replies all,

Guess I will just have to live with it!
My next question is... how do you adjust the clutch ?? The clutch doesn't release until the pedal has travelled quite a way - is there a setting it should be adjusted to??
I'm guessing it hasn't been adjusted since new

    Thanks

I don't think the clutch can be adjusted.

Newer VWs have a notoriously high biting point.

I have the wife's SEAT today and the brakes are still the same. Press......press harder.....scratch....and bite.

i agree with sam above, i dont think these can be adjusted, i was under the impression these were a hydraulic clutch, i've heard grumbles about the high bite point, my brothers 1.6 golf was terrible, i was constantly stalling it

as for the brake noise, id be tempted to change to a good quality brand pad setup, it's probably just poor pads, or a poor fitment, i can't see it being much else tbh.
