    I believe the 'MIL' function for these passats is handled by the 'glow plug' lamp, so I think it unlikely the 'CEL'/'MIL' would ever work?

    Mine is a 2002 awx also with no check engine light. I think from 2003 they had then.

    Happy now. I thought it had been tampered with

    There's no light like that in the owners manual on a 2002 Passat tdi.
