I got to the petrol station yesterday and picked up the v power pump. 30 litres later i realised my mistake and brimmed it with diesel. Got up this morning and struggled to start it but once its going it runs fine so went to work. Same struggle to start at the end of the day so came home put some 2 stroke in it to minimise pump damage hopefully. Then went to go out but would not go so i sucked out 15 litres of fuel and brimmed it again with diesel. Finally got it started and went on my way. When i went to leave my mates the damn thing would not start again. I did get it going but what do i need to do to resolve this? It seems to start easier when its cold but all this cranking is going to do my starter motor in. Will a filter change help? The car is an allroad 2.5 BAU engined.

    Thanks Mike

Surely getting the tank drained and refilled with diesel would be the best move here??

+1 on the above with that much petrol, but it would have been a good idea from the start....I reckon you can get away with that when its a few litres but thats a lot.

In advance - I'm not trying to be smart here either, but I just don't understand "the inevitable happened"??

Done now I suppose...............hope you get it sorted mate

    Best

Yep 30 litres is too much to water down with diesel

Get it drained and flushed and keep those fingers crossed that continued use hasn't done any long term damage to the fuel pump, injectors or even the engine internals

i would suggest that any damage may have already been done. how many miles have you done on this mix ? it will be harder to start as the petrol is less liable to burn without a spark, it relies on the diesel igniting to actually get it to burn. i would be inclined to top it with derv, go for a long drive and keep stopping at every petrol station to top it up. draining it would work, but thats a lot of money and a waste of fuel and only really worth it if you havn't driven it, or put diesel in a petrol, or drive a common rail diesel.

If you have one of them pella oil extractors then i would drain half of it and fill the tank again with diesel, been running my allroad on a mixture of diesel, petrol, used engine oil, brake fluid an gearbox oil for a few years- no problem yet ! I replace the fuel filters more often but that's about it...
