A4 2.oTFSI : MMI oil sensor issue / too much oil / false consumption

SO THE ENGINNER SPENT 5HRS CHECKING CAR. aLLSEALS OK, TURBO OK ..TOOK SPARK PLUGS OUT AND EACH ONE WET. (soz didnt mean to use capitals!)
Emissions ok and a little amount of smoke in back. Took it out and like a new car! So why the oil consumption. Could it be the sensor is wrong in the car and ) on the MMI could really be 100%! so is it burning excess oil and the film on the pistons is carry over from the cam rod ? He put his stick in 585mm (numbr from another forum) and has 4" on the stick!!
Can it run with 8litres of oil instead of 6.5? If i ignore the " please add 1 quart" alarm is there a low low level alarm?

UPDATE

Pulled into Audi. MMI says 0% add oil. Tech takes redings oil levels and ....its low! 4.5 litres! so MMI is correct. So must be burning oil. Added optimum amount and told to monitor.
Spoke to garage bought from and needs to discuss mybe new engine!!! way with audi so may get!! believe it when i see it!

I don't know about you but if I was in your shoes I maybe thinking of rejecting car and if had £££ go for a later one ...

It would depend on who swapped the engine. In theory the main dealer should get it right all the time. By new engine do you mean new, recon or a short motor?

By the sound of it all Audi work and new total engine 2 yr warrenty! SEEM S THEY may??? BE A RECAL OF 2009 ENGINES AS there are already 2013/12 being replaced!

I had engine replaced at a VW dealer, with new clutch/injectors/turbo. Every clip/bolt was there and perfectly done, one injector pipe leaked they sorted it ASAP. I had no trouble with vehicle for 2yrs+, I sold it due to an upgrade not because it had any issue ...

I had an engine & transmission removed and work done at an highly reputed indi, mechanically work was sound, cosmetically car was left in poor state IMO. There was a 2yr unlimited mileage warranty with work but not worth anything as i) it was verbal ii) poor customer/after care ...

The indi was unsympathetic to any of my gripes from work and started talking about complain to x body before coming to me ...
At least with a VAG dealer you can go to manufacturer customer care to place pressure on dealer rather than other routes ...

I've had many a work done at indi's over the years but after my last experience anything major I'd go to dealer only as they have right tools, lifting equipment, diags and training ...

If I ever went to an indi again for major work I'd really need some up front paperwork and viewing of tools/procedures and if they didn't do to my satisfaction then I'd use all that to do them via court ...

I'm sorry my indi mates, I'm not tarring you with the same brush but am just a fearful owner now ...

I have to partially agree with you Gup, I stopped using indies and started doing my own work. The guy I was using wasn't up to speed on techniques and special tools etc. His main timing tool was a tipex pen! In fairness the indies don't get the training a dealers techs get but mine was a sloppy, short-cut merchant with a penchant for lying and zero customer service skills. His "I have plenty of work, screw you" attitude is also there in main dealers but you have the option to go over their heads.

This is the safe guard with a dealer, I'm not saying indi's don't think about their rep, I'm a self employed person and care what my customer thinks but the ones that don't make me ...

Audi all the way for me. Love my car to much! well...if it gets repaired lol. Hope the garage arnt just building us up..at least should get my money back if audi wont replace engine. should i consider new clutch etc if they take engine out?
