Rather than hijack AlyM's post - Dash Camera - Page 2

I like his solution for a reversing camera.
I want to keep my MMI parking display so this looks an ideal solution.
Has anyone done a installation project on this ?

I''ve obviously done it and I've got a little switch under the dash (next to the bonnet release) to turn it off and on! Here is the camera...

This is the camera I used...

I went for that one so I could use the LED number plate lights.
Unlike this one below where you have to use the LED that's built in. Causing both sides to be differently illuminated...

There has to be a way of using the reverse gear to power it.
Would a relay connected to the reversing lights work to save having a switch, if so any of you electrical genii know how it could be done & where to take the power from ?

I initially did but was getting a lot of static so gave up in the end and just added the switch...

If you're wanting OEM integration then you'll need to add the TV tuner and this is big bucks.

I was going to fit the OEM camera to my A3 with RNSE and I needed:

    - OEM Camera integrated into the boot handle
    - Loom from camera to control module
    - R8 camera control module
    - Loom from module to RNSE.

Obviously the RNSE is different but the camera on MMI routes thru the TV tuner then forward into the car so unless you want to spend ~£1k+ getting a TV tuner, antennas, cabling, camera and loom for that then you'd be best going aftermarket imo.

I don't want to go OEM Chris, I want to maintain my MMI display with front / rear distance display. Thats what I like about AlyM's set up, - best of both worlds.

This is how I tapped into reversing lights when I installed rev sensors on my 2008 A6

If I could do the same to activate a relay and tap into a power supply, What do you think?
If I had probs I could always go with a switch like Aly.

It will work. The good thing about the screen is it trips on automatically and goes into reverse mode on screen!

Thanks Aly. I'll start getting the stuff together.
How did you rout the wires from camera to monitor ?
