This question has been burning in my brain for a while now.

When it comes to jacking up your A8, what do you use?

More specifically I wish to gain access to the parking brake and suss it out.

Is it safe to disconnect wires or do you have to turn something off or put the car into a particular mode or disconnect battery?

I know the car needs to be put into jack mode.

For cars with air suspension you need to put it in jacking mode, I believe this is available in the CAR menu on your mmi.

Your choice to disconnect the battery afterwards, just a 10mm bolt on the negative although I don't think it would be necessary if you're just looking as you might need vcds to release the back brake.

There's jacking points behind the front wheels and in front of the back wheels. Use a 2 ton trolley jack and if you're going under it use axle stands

Once you've jacked car via jacking points, place axle stands on subframe front/rear ...

On my A6 the front subframe is easily visible but rear is under some underbody trim ...

Just in case the front subframe will be under engine item 20 this diagram Link:- http://www.jimellisaudiparts.com/sho...tring=subframe

Rear is item 1 this diagram Link:- http://www.jimellisaudiparts.com/sho...g=rear%20frame

I picked the points on subframe closest to jacking point, say on front item 21 on 20 and rear item 2 on 1 ...

    Hope it make sense ...

I'm a bit puzzled by this, you're wanting to dive into some very complex electronic brakes, but don't know how to jack up the car?

    That is surprising

this is why I asked the question. I am not a car mechanic and fortunately have never been in a situation where I've needed to jack up a car. Isn't there a first for everything? Another reason I asked is because after doing some research I have found that the jack that comes with the A8's are potentially not safe. see here A8 car jack is unfit and unsafe. - AudiWorld Forums . It may be that this is a d2 jack that failed. I have also heard that changing the parking brake motor is not a complex task plus I love challenges and learning new things.

Hearing a direct opinion from A8 owners who have been there, done that regarding a specific issue is what this forum is all about.

    Please don't be concerned.

Ok, we all have to start somewhere, and good to see that you're thinking about safety before you start.,

    Good luck
